Naturalist/Educator
Once a working dairy farm, Muscoot Farm is an educational farm owned and operated by Westchester County. Today, Muscoot Farm provides an educative experience for visitors through our historic buildings, a variety of livestock and poultry, public programming and events. In addition, the farm also hosts a number of school and scout groups and a summer camp for students entering grades pre-K through eight.
Responsibilities:
- Plans and implements a variety of farm and environmental interpretive programs for children and adults
- Develops lesson plans and leads educational tours for a variety of ages and abilities
- Assists in farm and event related tasks as needed
- Performs administrative tasks, such as attending meetings and trainings, preparing reports, and maintaining records
- Assist or teach summer camp groups from June-August
- Offers assistance and guidance to farm patrons
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a love of nature, a willingness to work outdoors, and the ability to communicate effectively. Preference given to candidates with a proven history of environmental education or research, though all applications are welcome.
Requirements:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Background Check and Pre-Employment Drug Testing required
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in natural or life sciences, natural history, park management, environmental education or a closely related field is preferred
Hours and Salary:
The position of Naturalist/Educator is an hourly position. Work days vary; one weekend day is required. Salary is commensurate with experience.
